it felt like a conversation with no room for us

A colleague and I were troubleshooting a customer issue in San Jose last week. Right in the middle of a tough call, my supervisor chimed in, cutting off our conversation. They said, "You two need to get it together, we can't afford to waste time on this." The frustration in their voice made it clear they didn't care about the details or the effort we put in. It felt like a moment that summed up the stress of the job - just more pressure without any support. Later, I thought about how often this happens. I've seen it in other teams too, where the focus is all on numbers and speed, but not on collaboration or understanding. It's like we're all just cogs in a machine, expected to keep grinding away. No real room for the meaningful craft so many of us still believe in.
