A few weeks ago, during my shift in the Jacksonville office, I overheard two reps arguing about a lead. One was accusing the other of deliberately not passing info about a potential client because they wanted to keep the account for themselves. It got heated - voices were raised. I stood by my desk, feeling the tension in the air. The rep who got accused didn't deny it and instead pointed out how cutthroat things had gotten lately. They both ended up walking away without resolving anything, just more frustrated. I thought about how I had been trained to compete but never thought it would turn into this. That kind of atmosphere makes it hard to focus on doing the job well when you're looking over your shoulder. You can feel everyone competing to win, but at what cost? tl;dr: sales environment breeds distrust and competition among reps.
