U.S. Bank is the national bank owned by U.S. Bancorp, a financial services holding company that employed 68,520 people globally at December 31, 2025. It provides lending, deposit, payment and trust services to individuals, businesses, institutions and government bodies, mainly in US markets. The 2025 Form 10-K counts the group among the largest US providers of corporate and purchasing card services and of corporate trust services.

What U.S. Bank does

Retail banking runs through 2,075 branches in 26 states and 4,428 ATMs, both counted at December 31, 2025. Most of those branches are in the Midwest and West. The bank held all of the group's $522.2 billion in deposits on that date. Its product range also covers cash management, capital markets, trust and investment management, mortgage banking, insurance, brokerage, leasing, and merchant and ATM processing. Head offices are in leased space in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Foreign operations are small, and the 2025 Form 10-K calls them not significant to the company. They cover merchant processing in Canada and parts of Europe, plus corporate trust and fund administration in Europe.

Where U.S. Bank hires

Other sites come from the company's own 2025 Form 10-K. It leases operations centers in Kansas City, Little Rock, Minneapolis and Chicago. It owns operations centers in Cincinnati, Fargo, Knoxville, Oshkosh, Olathe, Owensboro, Portland and St. Paul. As of October 13, 2026, the careers site lists openings across the United States, Canada, Europe and India.

How U.S. Bank is organized

The 2025 Form 10-K reports four business segments:

  • Wealth, Corporate, Commercial and Institutional Banking: lending, payments, capital markets, asset management and brokerage for wealth, corporate, commercial and institutional clients.
  • Consumer and Business Banking: consumer banking, small business banking and consumer lending.
  • Payment Services: credit, debit and stored-value cards, corporate and purchasing cards, and merchant processing.
  • Treasury and Corporate Support: investment portfolios, funding, capital management and interest rate risk.

On June 1, 2026, the company completed its purchase of BTIG, an institutional brokerage and investment bank founded in 2005. BTIG runs as a separate broker-dealer. Its CEO reports to the head of Wealth, Corporate, Commercial and Institutional Banking.

Workforce and hiring patterns

LCA volume has risen each year. U.S. Bank National Association submitted 492 filings in calendar 2023, 644 in 2024 and 764 in 2025, an increase of about 55% over two years. Irving accounted for 124 of the 2023 filings and 195 of the 2025 filings. In 2023, Software Engineer (109) still outnumbered Senior Software Engineer (99).

The 2025 Form 10-K describes the workforce strategy as in-person engagement across more than 20 corporate hub locations, the branch network and business centers. A Maryland WARN notice dated May 20, 2026 lists a mass layoff of 36 employees at 4527 Metropolitan Ct in Frederick, effective July 24, 2026.

Good to know before you apply

  • Your hiring manager sets the location expectation. In a hub- or office-designated role, expect to be onsite three or more days a week, with up to two remote days.
  • Branch roles are onsite daily, and staff at specialty facilities are onsite five days a week. In certain cases, staff far from a hub work fully remote.
  • Students apply through a US Early Career program, with summer internships, early insight programs and full-time development programs, or a separate Europe program.
  • Ask in the threads below how the hub schedule plays out on the team you are targeting.
